Warehouse lift-truck training
On-site forklift training for warehouses and distribution centres nationwide, including counterbalance, reach, VNA and order-picker courses. Training reflects your racking, aisle widths, lift heights, loading bays and pedestrian routes.
Warehouse forklift training UK
| Warehouse need | Training page |
|---|---|
| General loading, unloading and yard handling | Counterbalance forklift training |
| Racked warehouse operations | Reach truck training |
| Very narrow aisle operations | VNA training |
| Low, medium or high-level picking | Order picker training |
| Pedestrian pallet movement or stacking | Pallet truck & stacker training |
Common requirements include counterbalance, reach truck, VNA, order picker and pedestrian pallet or stacker training. The machine plate and model should be checked so the correct category is booked.
Novice, experienced, conversion and refresher routes
Candidate history determines the starting route. A trained counterbalance operator moving to reach or VNA equipment normally needs structured conversion training, not just familiarisation. Previously trained operators may need refresher training when monitoring, an incident, change or period of non-use indicates it.

Warehouse forklift training site preparation
- Segregate an aisle or operating area from live picking and pedestrian movement.
- Provide serviceable equipment, documentation and representative palletised loads.
- Make suitable racking and lift heights available for the required exercises.
- Confirm emergency arrangements, especially for elevating operator-position VNA equipment.
Reduce operational disruption
Weekday and weekend delivery is available. For 24/7 sites, candidate groups can be planned around shift patterns, but the practical area still needs to be safely isolated. MHE Training UK delivers the courses directly and confirms duration and capacity before dates are agreed.
Training around racking and warehouse traffic
Warehouse forklift training should reflect more than the truck itself. A reach truck working at height, a counterbalance truck crossing a loading bay and a VNA machine operating inside guided or very narrow aisles all create different visibility, stability and pedestrian-control issues. Practical exercises should use the lift heights, pallet types and operating areas candidates normally work with wherever this can be done safely.
Choose the right warehouse forklift course
- Counterbalance forklift training for loading bays, goods-in, yards and general pallet handling.
- Reach truck training for warehouse racking and high-level pallet placement.
- VNA forklift training for specialist narrow-aisle operations.
- Order-picker training for low, medium or higher-level picking equipment as applicable.
- Pallet-truck and stacker training for pedestrian and rider-operated equipment.
Candidate routes and conversion training
A certificate on one truck type does not automatically make an operator competent on another. Where an experienced operator moves from counterbalance to reach, VNA or another substantially different category, structured conversion training may be appropriate. The candidate’s previous training and recent experience are reviewed before the course duration is agreed.

Reach truck, VNA and order picker are different training requirements
Warehouse equipment can look similar while requiring very different operating techniques. A reach truck is designed for pallet handling in racking, a VNA truck may operate within guided very narrow aisles, and an order picker is designed around picking work rather than conventional pallet stacking. The correct training category should therefore be based on the actual machine and duties, not just the fact that all three work inside a warehouse.
For mixed fleets, send the machine make/model and normal work area for each category. See our dedicated reach truck training, VNA forklift training and order picker training pages before booking.
Warehouse training checklist
- Confirm the exact machine category, make/model and lift height.
- Provide suitable racking and representative palletised loads.
- Isolate the practical area from live picking, pedestrians and unrelated vehicle movements.
- Confirm candidate experience and provide previous training records where possible.
- For elevating operator-position VNA equipment, make sure the site’s emergency and rescue arrangements are understood before training starts.
Read the pre-use check guide, refresher decision guide and VNA rescue-planning guide.
Warehouse forklift training FAQs
Can training fit around our shifts and weekends?
Weekday and weekend delivery is available subject to the live diary. Send your shift pattern and preferred times so the arrangements can be confirmed before booking. The practical area still needs to be safely segregated.
Can experienced operators complete conversion training?
Where previous training and experience are suitable, a structured conversion route may be appropriate for a different machine category. This is confirmed before booking.
Do you provide training nationwide?
Yes. On-site forklift and MHE training is available nationwide on weekdays and weekends subject to the live diary and site suitability.
