Eligibility comes first

Proof of previous training is required

This is the ALLMI experienced-operator route. It is not an automatic card swap and MHE Training UK does not describe it as a conversion course.

Operators must be able to prove previous training using the ALLMI Proof of Previous Training form. We must be satisfied that the ALLMI experienced route is appropriate before the course is confirmed.

If acceptable proof cannot be provided, we will discuss the correct ALLMI training route rather than simply placing the operator onto the one-day course.

What happens on the day?

ALLMI states that its experienced Operator course is one day. Candidates still complete the required training and assessment process, including theoretical and practical assessment.

Successful candidates receive an ALLMI identity card and certificate and are registered on the ALLMI Operator database in accordance with the scheme requirements.

A specialist lorry-loader scheme

Why move away from the ABA and choose ALLMI?

If your organisation currently uses an ABA-recognised route for lorry-loader operators and wants training focused specifically on the lorry-loader industry, ALLMI provides a specialist alternative.

Lorry-loader specialist focus

ALLMI is dedicated to the lorry-loader industry, with Operator training built specifically around loader-crane work.

Industry standards structure

ALLMI states that its Training Standards Committee includes technical and training professionals from major loader-crane manufacturers and importers, with HSE representation.

Recognition

ALLMI Operator training is recognised by Build UK and approved by CSCS.

Experienced route

Where the ALLMI Proof of Previous Training requirement is satisfied and the experienced route is appropriate, ALLMI states that the Operator course duration is one day.

Five-year ALLMI validity

ALLMI Lorry Loader identity cards and certificates are valid for five years before refresher training and reassessment are required.

RTITB / NORS comparison

For the RTITB-accredited ABA route, RTITB states that NORS registers trained operators for three years. Refresher training is required after that period to remain on the register.

Certification cycle: RTITB / NORS registration is on a 3-year cycle, while the ALLMI Lorry Loader identity card and certificate are valid for 5 years. See RTITB’s NORS information and ALLMI’s Operator certification information.

Experienced-route eligibility checklist

Before booking the one-day ALLMI experienced-operator course, we check that the route is appropriate for the people being trained. Employers should be ready to confirm the following:

  • Each operator has previous lorry-loader training that can be evidenced to the standard required for the ALLMI experienced route.
  • The required ALLMI Proof of Previous Training information can be completed accurately.
  • The operators have relevant recent experience on lorry-loader equipment rather than only general vehicle or forklift experience.
  • A suitable loader crane, vehicle and safe practical area will be available for the course.
  • The equipment is serviceable and appropriate for the training and assessment activities required.
  • The site can provide the basic facilities needed for theory, practical training and assessment.

If any of these points are unclear, contact us before selecting dates. We would rather establish the correct route first than book a one-day course that turns out not to be suitable for the operator.

What to send before booking

  1. Site postcode and full training address.
  2. Lorry-loader make, model and basic configuration.
  3. Number of operators requiring training.
  4. Details of each operator’s previous lorry-loader training and evidence available.
  5. Preferred weekday or weekend dates from the live availability page.
  6. Any site-access, induction or operational restrictions that could affect the day.

What employers should prepare for the training day

The vehicle and loader crane should be available for the agreed training period, with a safe area where candidates can complete practical exercises without unnecessary interruption. Any normal attachments or load-handling equipment relevant to the course should also be available where appropriate.

Candidate documentation and previous-training evidence should be ready before the day. If site induction, PPE or access arrangements apply, tell us in advance so the course can start promptly. Our aim is to arrive prepared to deliver the agreed ALLMI route rather than lose training time resolving avoidable site issues.

Driver CPC available with eligible ALLMI training

A full 7-hour day of eligible ALLMI experienced-operator training can count as 7 hours towards Driver CPC, subject to driver eligibility, DVSA approval of the course and training centre, and correct registration and recording. Driver CPC must be arranged at booking; ALLMI attendance alone does not automatically qualify.

Extra charges apply per person, per day for the Driver CPC add-on, in addition to the £600 ALLMI offer. The additional cost is confirmed before booking. Combining the training can reduce the need for separate CPC training days, saving you time and helping keep your drivers on the road.

Ask for Driver CPC when requesting your quotation. See ALLMI guidance and DVSA course requirements.

Questions employers ask

Is this a conversion from ABA to ALLMI?

No. We describe it as the ALLMI experienced-operator course. Operators must meet the experienced-route requirements and provide the required proof of previous training.

Does an ABA certificate automatically qualify someone?

No automatic eligibility is promised. Previous training must be evidenced using the ALLMI Proof of Previous Training form and the operator must be suitable for the experienced route.

What does the £600 include?

The campaign price is £600 total for up to four eligible experienced operators, including ALLMI books. No VAT is added.

Where is the course delivered?

MHE Training UK provides nationwide on-site training, subject to our live availability, travel arrangements and suitable equipment and facilities.

Ready to move your experienced operators to ALLMI?
