Long-load and yard competence
On-site forklift, sideloader and ALLMI training for timber yards and building-supplies businesses nationwide. Courses reflect long loads, cantilever storage and movement between sheds, external yards and delivery vehicles.
Timber yard forklift and sideloader training UK
MHE Training UK can train on counterbalance trucks, sideloaders and multidirectional machines, telescopic handlers, T1 vehicle-mounted lift trucks and ALLMI lorry loaders. The correct category depends on the machine configuration—not simply the name used at the branch.

Timber yard forklift training risks and practical focus
- Load length, flex, banding condition and the effect of an offset centre of gravity.
- Correct fork spread, load support and attachment use.
- Restricted visibility when travelling with long or bulky loads.
- Cantilever racking, safe withdrawal and placement, and exclusion zones.
- Ground condition, gradients, wind exposure and vehicle/pedestrian segregation.
Course routes
Novice, experienced, refresher and conversion routes are available where appropriate. A trained counterbalance operator moving to a multidirectional or sideloader application may need conversion training, but previous experience is reviewed before a shorter duration is agreed.
On-site delivery
Using the employer’s equipment allows training to address the controls, capacity, attachments, loads and layout candidates face at work. MHE Training UK delivers weekday and weekend courses nationwide, with practical exercises planned around the actual machines, loads and workplace layout.
Training for long-load handling
Long products change the way a truck behaves and the way an operator must plan travel, turning and placement. Timber packs, boards, steel sections and other building materials can obscure visibility, flex during movement or create a centre of gravity that is different from a standard pallet. Training should therefore use representative loads and the storage systems operators work with every day.
Where sites use specialist long-load equipment, the correct machine category matters. A sideloader, multidirectional truck and conventional counterbalance truck may all handle similar stock, but their steering, load support and operating envelopes are different. Browse Machines We Train On to match the equipment before booking.

ALLMI training for delivery vehicles
Timber and building-supplies businesses that deliver materials using vehicle-mounted loader cranes can also book ALLMI Lorry Loader Operator training. Where staff select lifting accessories, attach loads or direct the operator, ALLMI Slinger / Signaller training may be required as a separate competence.
Driver CPC available with eligible ALLMI training: a full 7-hour ALLMI Lorry Loader or Slinger / Signaller training day can count as 7 hours towards Driver CPC, subject to driver eligibility, an approved course and training centre, and correct registration and recording. Arrange this at booking. Extra charges apply per person, per day for the Driver CPC add-on. Combining the training can reduce separate CPC training days, saving time and helping keep your drivers on the road. Driver CPC details and conditions.
Typical training combinations for timber and builders-merchant sites
One branch may use several different machine types. Counterbalance trucks can cover general pallet handling, sideloaders or multidirectional trucks can be used for long packs and boards, T1 vehicle-mounted lift trucks can support deliveries, and lorry loaders can be used where materials are lifted from the delivery vehicle. Each machine has its own operating characteristics, so the training plan should match the equipment actually used rather than treating all materials-handling equipment as one category.
For multi-branch businesses, training can be planned across different locations while keeping the same core standards and adapting the practical exercises to each branch. See our nationwide training coverage and current weekday and weekend availability.

Is weekend training available?
Yes. Weekday and weekend courses are available subject to the live diary and site suitability.
